Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret fought over drugs as children.
Royal families may be sophisticated, but it is always refreshing to hear that they have more in common with us ordinary people than they appear. For example, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret had a serious sibling rivalry as children, and a royal biographer described Elizabeth as having a "nice left hook." [Princess Margaret, who passed away in 2002, was only four years younger than her sister and did not have the same sense of responsibility as Elizabeth, but Margaret's altruism and poignant sense of humor made her one of the most beloved royals in history. (Although obviously fictional, Margaret seemed like a fun woman to be with in "The Crown.") The sisters' relationship remained close, as they relied on each other despite the public scrutiny.
However, there were sibling rivalries during their childhood. According to Express UK, quoting royal expert Victoria Arbiter's comments in the documentary Princess Margaret: Rebel Without a Crown, "They could have gone at it." The two could have gone at it. Her tutor, Marion Crawford, said the two did not hesitate to argue and fight. Elizabeth seemed to have a good left hook, and Margaret was not shy about biting her sister in return".
Can you imagine biting the future queen? A glimpse into the lives of these two important figures of the 20th and 21st centuries reveals the closeness of their relationship and shows that despite the burden of their royal lineage, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret were ordinary children, growing up and, yes, sometimes fighting.
Arbiter also adds that, despite the fights and biting, Elizabeth and Margaret were very close as children and remained so until adulthood. So it took some of the pressure off Elizabeth, who was more introverted than her naughty older sister."
The documentary also mentions that their father, King George VI, once said of his beloved daughters, "Elizabeth is my pride, but Margaret is my joy. Very kind words.
While it is fascinating to get a glimpse into her childhood, it is hard to imagine the Queen pulling someone off and decking them out now and then. But it is good to know that the queen has it in her.
