Prince Harry's security "compromised" during his last visit to the UK.
[The social media threats against Meghan Markle and her children alone would be enough to put security in place. According to a statement released by Harry's spokesman on Saturday, the reason Harry and his family (including Lilibet) have not revisited the UK is the lack of police protection in the country. But the statement also reveals something even more frightening: Harry's security was actually compromised when he returned in July 2021 for the unveiling of a statue honoring Princess Diana.
Royal biographer Omid Scobie shared a statement from Harry's team on Twitter, explaining why they have taken a new decision to appeal against two rejected requests for police security during their visit to the UK:
According to the BBC, Harry and Princess Meghan will be on royal duty in 2020 They lost their taxpayer-funded security when they left their royal duties in 2020 and paid for their own private security during their stay in the United States.
The statement explains that Harry has twice petitioned the British government to allow him to pay for his own police security, including a request for judicial review in September 2021, "so as not to burden the British taxpayer." His request was denied both times." As is widely known, the statement continued, "others who leave public office and pose an inherent threat risk receive police protection at no cost to them."
A spokesperson revealed that these security concerns proved particularly valid when Prince Harry visited the UK to attend the unveiling of the Diana statue with Prince William. While photos of the event have gone viral and the brothers appeared to be walking amicably through the garden, we know that there was more going on during that trip than meets the eye. It states, "On my last visit to the UK in July 2021 for the unveiling of a statue in honor of my late mother, my security was compromised by the lack of police protection as I exited the charity event."
Even the media commentators most critical of Harry have defended him on this point; Express UK quoted Charlie Ray, former royal editor of The Sun, as saying, "I think Harry is entitled to this. He is not asking you or me to pay for it. He will pay for protection while he is in this country." Rae added, "I also doubt that his own security from the US will be allowed to enter the Royal Family's sanctuary. That is a job for the Met Police or the Thames Valley Police. I think he has a point."
It is quite odd that Harry is not allowed to have police security at his own expense while he is in the UK. Especially so that the Queen can see her great-grandson Lilibet.
