Prince Andrew High School is changing the name of the school to make students feel more "safe"

A school in Nova Scotia, Canada, is taking a cue from others associated with Prince Andrew and trying to distance itself. When the first accusations were made by Virginia Giuffre, who claims to have been sexually abused at age 17 in connection with Prince Andrew's friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, it was clear that it would have a major impact on the royal family. He was removed from his royal duties and remained quiet, denying the allegations. But things began to move quickly last month when the U.S. judge overseeing the case denied his motion to dismiss the civil charges.

First, Prince Andreu was stripped of his military titles and honorary positions. Then, York's legislators began lobbying Parliament to strip him of his Duke of York title, and pubs bearing the Duke of York's name began considering renaming themselves. And now Prince Andrew's school is following their lead.

According to the Daily Mail, the high school, which was named in 1960 to commemorate the birth of the Duke of York, is facing pressure from the community to change its name in response to the accusations. In a letter to parents obtained by the local newspaper Coast, the school's principal explained that the new name will take effect by the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

In the letter, Principal Craig Campbell did not mention the allegations against Prince Andrew, but it is heavily implied: "The school name reflects our school community and supports our values of a safe and inclusive learning space for all. It should be one that is safe and inclusive for all. Our desire is to continue to build our identity as a positive, collaborative, and respectful community with a name that is appropriate. We hear from many of you who feel the same way." The school then solicited neighborhood residents for suggestions on renaming the school.

For Prince Andrew, the dominoes only continue to fall, and while this is merely the latest spate of allegations, it is certainly not the last.
