Prince William no longer 'reluctant' to become king, expert says

In theory, being a king or queen sounds so wonderful. But what about in practice? It is a very public role, held for a lifetime, and comes with great pressure and responsibility. Prince William was famously nervous about becoming heir to the throne when he was younger, and Prince Harry once revealed in an interview, "Does anyone in the royal family want to be king or queen?"

But according to Jenny Bond, a royal writer with long ties to the royal family, Prince William is maturing in his duties; in a report by Express magazine for OK! magazine, Bond explained that it was clear from his teenage years that Prince William would one day grow up to be a great future king Express reported. Bond told the magazine, "I knew his mother, Princess Diana, and we have talked in detail about the children, and I vividly remember her saying that the country was lucky to have Prince William, that he would be fine." Still, his concern about taking on such a major role was evident even then.

"She also said that at that age, in his early teens, he found that the burden of being king was already weighing quite heavily on his shoulders."

Bond noted that even the public sensed William's hesitation in taking the throne. 'He knew his fate from an early age, more than any other,' he said. 'But in the last couple of years, he has convincingly demonstrated that he is the right man for the role and that he values being king. He has fully embraced the role and the responsibility that fate has given him," she added. [Prince William is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles, and rumors that Prince Charles may step down for Prince William are likely unfounded. Nevertheless, since Prince Charles is already 73 years old, he may only retain the throne for a short while after Queen Elizabeth II steps down from the throne.

Nevertheless, when Prince Charles becomes king, Prince William and Kate Middleton will each receive several title changes. Prince William will become Prince of Wales, and Kate will have the same title as Princess Diana, Princess of Wales.
