Princess Diana once consulted photographer Anwar Hussein about interfaith marriage

Princess Diana's marriage to Prince Charles was far from the fairy-tale romance she and the nation had hoped for, but when the royal couple separated, she finally got her chance at love.

Her relationship with cardiac surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan is considered to have been the princess's greatest love story, although it was never documented (according to Vanity Fair magazine).

In fact, it was such a great love story that the princess seemed to have seriously considered marrying Khan.

Anwar Hussein, the photographer who documented the last 17 years of Princess Diana's life, was on a plane with her in the mid-90s when the royal family approached him with several questions.

"All the lights were off on the plane, and she came over and whispered, 'Can I talk to you for a minute,'" Hussein tells People. Hussein tells People. 'She knew I was married to an Englishwoman, Caroline. She wanted to know about Islam. She was asking about married life when one is Muslim and the other is Protestant."

[10 [She was interested in Dr. Hasnat Khan. She didn't mention him, but she thought I knew about him. I think she was concerned about how the family would react to him and things like that."

Unfortunately, this romance ended shortly before Princess Diana's untimely death. Her next boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed, who was also in the car with her, tragically passed away.

Hussein was interviewed by People to promote the current Princess Diana exhibition: the exhibition has opened in Los Angeles and Chicago and will soon open in New York.
