Prince Harry and Meghan Markle express "concern" to Spotify over Joe Rogan COVID misreporting issue.

It is well known that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a lucrative deal with Spotify. When the streaming platform recently came under fire for allowing podcast host Joe Rogan to spread misinformation about COVID-19 on his hit podcast, it was only a matter of time before the Sussexes were expected to break their silence on the controversy. It was only a matter of time.

Back to the story. When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex switched from living in the royal household to living in California, one of their most talked about projects was the Archewell Audio podcast. They released a special holiday episode on Spotify in December 2020 and then, pardon the pun, went completely silent.

While we waited with baited breath for the podcast distribution to resume, the Sussexes worked on many other projects.

Joe Logan also has a Spotify-exclusive podcast, the streaming giant's most popular podcast. Logan has repeatedly misinformed the public about COVID-19 and vaccines, a fact that was highlighted last week when singer and vaccine advocate Neil Young issued a statement on his website asking Spotify to choose between him and Logan (via CNN) ...

Spotify removed Young's music, and creators such as Joni Mitchell and Brené Brown followed his lead. Spotify is now "adding a content warning to podcast episodes that include discussion of COVID-19," but of course took no action to remove Logan's podcast.

In a statement obtained by Page Six, a spokesperson for Arcewell spoke about the whole situation.

"Last April, our co-founders began expressing concern to Spotify's partners about the all-too-real consequences of COVID-19 misreporting on Spotify's platform," the statement began.

"We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure that the Spotify platform is modified to address this public health crisis.

"We expect Spotify to reach this moment and are committed to continuing our joint work to ensure that Spotify does so."
