Prince Harry feels Princess Diana's presence more than ever
In a wide-ranging interview with Hoda Kotb of NBC's Today show, Prince Harry said he feels as if his late mother, Princess Diana, has been with him more than ever during the past two turbulent years.
"It's as if my mother has done her part for my brother and is helping me so much now. 'I finished setting up my brother and now she is helping me set up.'
The Duke of Sussex told Kotb on Wednesday in The Hague, Netherlands, where the Invictus Games had just concluded after a week of competition. And while Harry said he never tells his soon-to-be 3-year-old son Archie "everything that happened," he frequently talks about "Princess Diana" and shows him pictures of her kept in the Montecito house.
"For me, it's a constant thing," Harry said of feeling her presence. 'More so than ever in the last two years.'
The past two years have of course included the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's infamous "stepping down from active royalty" in January 2020, their move to the US, the launch of the non-profit Archewell, commercial deals with Netflix and Spotify, Meghan's miscarriage, and daughter Lilibet Diana's pregnancy and birth, the couple's Oprah interview, the death of her grandfather Prince Philip, and the unveiling of a statue honoring Princess Diana at Kensington Palace, to name just a few of the roadblocks of the past two years.
"Today, as we celebrate our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength, and character. And we hope that this statue will forever be seen as a symbol of her life and her legacy."
William, of course, also gave his daughter her late mother's middle name. And Harry said he was in a similar position with his children, although "obviously in a different situation" than his brother.
"She's looking out for us," Harry told Kotb, to which Kotb replied that he was sure Diana was proud of Harry.
"I'm sure she is," he replied.
