Prince William was worried that Meghan Markle was not ready for the royal life.
Royal author Tina Brown has published a new book, The Palace Papers (opens in new tab), which is packed with one revealing fact after another (by the way, Marie Claire interviewed Brown and she gave us some pretty juicy tidbits).
Back in October, we reported that the book might change the way we view the royal family, and that prediction seems to be coming true.
In one excerpt, we learned that Prince William felt that things between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were moving too quickly and that the future Duchess of Sussex would have real difficulty adjusting to royal life under the circumstances of the time. Of course, his concerns turned out to be well-founded, and the Sussexes retired from royal duties to protect their mental health.
"Someone close to the Duke of Cambridge told me that William thought she should have more time to build a life in England and make friends who did not have to be constantly brought privately to the palace," Brown wrote in The Palace Papers (via Town & Country). Brown wrote in The Palace Papers (via Town & Country).
"It was hard enough for Kate, but Princess Meghan is a gorgeous actress and the first woman of color to join the royal family.
Brown also addressed Prince William's concern for Harry more specifically. The individual wrote, "Harry's mental fragility was not only his own problem, but his brother's fear that he would not be strong enough to handle it all on her behalf."
The Duke of Sussex, however, was not sympathetic to his brother's views. "To summarize Harry's rebuttal to his brother's concerns, 'The best way to protect her is to marry her as soon as possible.'
More recently, the brothers, once very close, sadly still do not see eye to eye.
