Meghan Markle Officially Removes Traces of Cancelled Netflix Shows from Archewell Website
Last week, it was announced that Meghan Markle's animated series "Pearl," which she had planned to produce for Netflix, has been put on hold amid the streaming giant's ongoing financial difficulties.
Now, the Daily Mail reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wasted no time in removing the project from their Archewell website. Markle must be really disappointed now, as the show was really great and exciting. Besides, there is no point in listing it as an ongoing project since it is no longer in production.
As Marie Claire previously reported, Pearl was to center on "the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who finds inspiration in various influential women throughout history."
When the show was announced, the Duchess released the following statement (which appeared on Archewell): "Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery, trying to overcome the daily challenges of life...Archewell Productions is thrilled to partner with such a powerful platform as Netflix and these amazing producers to bring you this new animated series celebrating extraordinary women in history. David Furnish and I are eager to bring this extraordinary series to life and are delighted to announce it today."
Despite Pearl's cancellation, the Sussexes' foray into television production is far from over: their Archewell Productions page still lists the Netflix project Heart of Invictus.
Of this particular project, the Duke of Sussex writes "Since the first Invictus Games in 2014, we have known that each competitor, in their own exceptional way, contributes to the mosaic of resilience, determination, and resolve. The series will bring the inspiring and uplifting stories of the athletes competing in next year's Invictus Games in the Netherlands to communities around the world. "Archewell Productions, in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation As the first series to partner with Netflix under Archewell Productions' partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, I could not be more excited about the journey ahead and proud that the Invictus community continually inspires healing, human potential and continued service in the world."
As for the Duchess, no official release date has been announced yet, but her podcast, Archetypes, is alive and well.
