Prince William hugs his grandfather in Glasgow.

Prince William sees your royal protocol and gives you a gentle hug.

In most welcome news Friday morning, the Duke of Cambridge was photographed hugging his grandfather in Glasgow on the first day of his and the Duchess' visit to Scotland.

During a visit to the Wheatley Group, which helps people at risk of homelessness, the Cambridges mingled with local residents gathered outside, including 66-year-old William Burns, a father of six and grandfather of 25.

Barnes had been temporarily homeless after being kicked out after a fight with one of his sons. When Prince William broke from his usual formal handshake to give Barnes a warm hug, it was an intensely emotional moment for him.

"I am a grandfather. I felt like a son hugging his father," Burns explained to the Daily Mail. Now that I'm sobbing, it's completely easy for me to write the article.

"The thing is that he hugged me," Barnes continued. 'To be honest, I wasn't expecting something like that. It gave me a boost. I've never felt anything like that in my life and in my existence as a human being."

On what led to the hug, Burns told the Mail, "I looked at Kate and thought that woman was amazing. She is beautiful and obviously a beautiful person. I was standing there with my wife, and William came into the crowd."

"I was standing there with my wife, and William came into the crowd.

"I decided to meet the man and he asked my name and I tried to shake his hand.

"I said my name was William and he said, 'I'm William too.' ' And he laughed. He put his hand on my shoulder

"He put his hand on my shoulder and then gave me a hug. I was very touched. I was overjoyed." [Darren Stanton, a body language expert, told Marie Claire that this was truly a genuine gesture.

"Moments like this are an unprecedented demonstration of how genuine, empathetic, and open Kate and William are," Stanton commented on behalf of Slingo (open in new tab).

"As a royal protocol, the Queen never shakes hands bare-handed with anyone. William embracing an elderly man is a rare outpouring of pure emotion from a senior royal, and you can tell from the man's face that it was one of true exuberance, with moments that will surely stick with him for the rest of his days."

For Stanton, the interaction was reminiscent of the Duke's mother's warm manner." He says, "I have not seen so much affection, even from the public, regarding a senior royal since Princess Diana. It is clear that the public cares very much for William and Kate, and demonstrations like this one will undoubtedly cement the public's affection for the two."
