Meghan Markle's poignant message to working mothers and her appeal for more childcare support
As a mother of two with many projects, Meghan Markle knows that balancing childcare and work is not always easy.
That is why advocating for better childcare support is a personal cause for her. To that end, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's company Archewell has announced its support for the "National Business Coalition for Child Care" initiative sponsored by the Marshall Plan for Moms.
As part of the initiative's press release, the Duchess said, "Families everywhere, and working mothers in particular, are being asked to shoulder a lot."
This situation has been heightened by the pandemic, with increasing caregiving responsibilities, rising prices, and economic uncertainty. As has been said many times, it takes a village to raise a child. Today, we are sending the message that child care is not only a community imperative, but a business imperative. Creating a stronger workforce starts with meeting the needs of families."
The Marshall Plan for Moms released a report showing that providing more child care benefits to employees has measurable benefits for businesses.
"The feedback from working parents is clear. Employer child care assistance can improve employee recruitment, retention, productivity, and well-being," said Reshma Saujani, founder and CEO of Marshall Plan for Moms, as part of the announcement. Not only is this crucial to the health and well-being of every American household, but it is also central to America's economic competitiveness."
The Duchess has expressed her support for paid family leave many times before, and her participation in this project is a continuation of her previous work.
