What does a future king give a future king for his first birthday? A playhouse, but a luxurious one costing £18,000 (!). The King's Playhouse is a luxury one, costing as much as £18,000 (!!).

According to the Mirror, Prince George was given an expensive playhouse for his first birthday, installed at his grandfather, the Prince of Wales' home in Highgrove.

"Given the hefty price tag, one would expect this playhouse to be a bit more impressive than the usual children's Wendy house," the outlet said, a term commonly used in the UK to refer to a small playhouse for children.

"I would say that Prince George's version, with its wood-burning stove and daybed, is more upscale."

This expensive playhouse was installed in the garden of Prince Charles' country home, where not only George but also his younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis now play. Featuring a hand-built shepherd's hut and a 12-foot by 6-foot Victorian playhouse, visitors to the 15-acre gardens of Prince Charles' home can take a guided tour. The Mirror reports

that "the hut was a gift from Dorset-based Plankbridge on Prince George's birthday as a thank-you for funding from the Prince's Trust." [And this is not the only attraction for the three Cambridge children in Highgrove Gardens: a treehouse was built for the children's father in 1989, when Prince William was seven years old. The wooden house, built on slate stilts, was renovated by Prince Charles more than 30 years later so that his grandchildren could play in it.
