Princess Diana's personal trainer spends four years unaware that she is required to bow

The relationship between personal trainer Jenni Rivett and the most famous woman in the world (Princess Diana, of course) began in the early 1990s with a phone call from the Princess's butler, Paul Burrell. At the time, the South African-born fitness coach was based in the UK and was training Princess Diana's best friend, Julia Samuel.

"One day I got a call," Rivett told Insider. 'It was bizarre. It was Paul Burrell from Kensington Palace, and he said, "Oh, is that Jenni?" , "Yes, that's right." And, "This is Paul Burrell from Kensington Palace, and Her Royal Highness would like to make an appointment to see you."

.

Rivette, like all of us, was "quite surprised," he says. For the next seven years, Rivette worked as Princess Diana's personal trainer, but because she was not from England, she did not know she had to bow to Princess Diana. And after trying to apologize, Diana laughed and said, "That's why I love you," and told Rivette she did not have to bow.

"I think we hit it off so well because she liked the fact that I was South African and didn't know all the rules," says Rivette. 'I didn't bow to her for four years. No one told me."

Diana and Rivette became fast friends, in part, Rivette says, because Diana liked the fact that they were not from the same social circles, or even the same country.

By the way, you can train like Diana: Rivette offers online training sessions through her "Train Like a Woman" program.
