Publication of Prince Harry's memoir may be delayed due to inclusion of Platinum Jubilee subplot.
It has long been said that Prince Harry's memoirs would be released in late 2022, but as we approach the middle of the year, neither the Duke of Sussex himself nor his publisher, Penguin Random House, have set a release date, leaving the question of whether it will be released this year.
According to royal expert Roya Nikka, there is a good reason for this, and it may be related to Harry's return to the UK for his platinum jubilee next month. Writing in The Times, Nikka said that delaying the publication date would "avoid overshadowing" the events of the Jubilee, as reported by the Daily Express.
According to Nikka, it would "give Harry the opportunity to attend next month's celebrations with Meghan and the children and explain that the Sussex family will be reunited with the royal family for the first time in over two years."
The behind-the-scenes details of the Sussex homecoming will reportedly not be captured on Netflix's cameras, but will be a compelling coda to the "intimate and heartfelt memoir" about his life released last year. He calls it "accurate, completely truthful" and the "definitive record" of his "experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons."
"I have worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively. By telling my story - the peaks and valleys, the failures and lessons learned - I hope to help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think," Harry wrote of his memoir. He added, "I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I've learned in my life so far, and I hope that I can help show that we have more in common than we think.
It is hard to ignore the anxiety that exists about this confessional book over the family's return to the UK. Royal author Ian Lloyd told the Express that the royal family is "very wary" of the book's release at the Jubilee and that it will be as explosive, if not more so, than Harry and Meghan's in-person interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 Nikka says he fears it will be.
"The delayed publication date will probably be a relief to the royal family and courtiers," she says, "as some fear that the book will draw flak following the Sussex couple's soulful interview with Oprah Winfrey.
