Meghan Markle Visits Uvalde to Pay Tribute to School Shooting Memorial

On Thursday, Meghan Markle made a low-key visit to Uvalde, Texas, to pay her respects to the victims of this week's school shooting.

Dressed in a T-shirt, jeans, sneakers, and a baseball cap, the Duchess of Sussex laid roses at a memorial set up hours after a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School, killing 19 children and two teachers and wounding 17 others.

Markle walked around the memorial reading the names of the victims on white crosses and knelt before it to reflect.

A spokesperson for the Duchess told Town & Country that she came to Uvalde in her "personal capacity as a mother" to "offer her condolences and support directly to a community experiencing unimaginable grief." Markle is the mother of two young children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 11 months.

According to TODAY, after the shooting, people sometimes drove hundreds of miles to donate blood at community centers that were holding blood drives to help injured victims.

Markle visited the center's kitchen that day and served food for blood donors, including sandwiches, drinks, and desserts.

"I had no idea who she was," volunteer Gloria Contreras told BuzzFeed News.

"She just carried on a conversation like she and I had known each other for years. We just talked about the situation, what had happened, what we were doing here. We talked about how we are distributing water and feeding people."
