70 aircraft flypast on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

This morning, an impressive flypast of 70 aircraft took place on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's reign.

At one point, the flypast took the shape of a "70" to honor the longest reign of a queen in British history. At the end of the flypast, planes passed under the roaring crowds as the red, white, and blue, the symbolic colors of the United Kingdom, tore through the sky.

In addition to being a memorable platinum jubilee for Her Majesty, it will be the first time since 2019 that Her Majesty will conduct Trooping the Colour at Buckingham Palace; in 2020 and 2021, Trooping the Colour (a military parade celebrating the monarch's official birthday) will be held at the Queen's Windsor Castle, where she stayed under house arrest (she now lives there permanently).

The Queen wore a pale blue coat dress, hat, and gloves by Her Majesty's personal dressmaker and friend Angela Kelly, making blue the theme color of the morning. To the Queen's left stood the lovely Prince Louis. He was expressionless, waving, covering his ears, taking it all in. He was wearing the mini sailor suit that his father, Prince William, had worn 37 years earlier, in 1985!

Louis' mother, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, stood behind him in a white Alexander McQueen dress, a longtime favorite of the Duchess, and a white and blue Philip Treacy hat. She also wore sapphire and diamond earrings previously owned by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, according to PEOPLE magazine.

Princess Charlotte wore blue as well, and Prince George's blue suit and tie continued the color theme. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also chose and re-wore Bruce Oldfield's blue striped dress and Philip Tracy hat. Prince Charles, Prince William, and Princess Anne were all in uniform, as they had just participated in the Trooping the Colors parade just prior. Her Majesty is usually saluted during the parade, but this year, along with William and Anne, her son and heir, Prince Charles, took the salute.

Other active members of the royal family graced the balcony this morning, as did the Wessex family (the Queen's youngest son Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and their children, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn.

The Platinum Jubilee beacon will be lit later today, and a service of thanksgiving to the Queen will be held tomorrow morning at St. Paul's Cathedral. On Saturday, the Derby and live concert "Platinum Party at the Palace" will be held at Epsom Downs, and on Sunday, the busy weekend will conclude with the Big Jubilee Lunch at the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
