Kate Middleton Asks Body Language Expert How Prince Louis "Builds Trust" When He's "Messing Around"
As is often said, Kate Middleton is a natural in front of children.
Whenever she meets a group of children at an official function, she always crouches down to talk to them at their eye level rather than towering over them (I don't know about you, but as a child I remember being terrified of adults who did this).
And while the Duchess of Cambridge is great with other people's children, she regularly shows herself to be a great parent to her own children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. [As body language expert Darren Stanton points out, nowhere is this more evident than in her reaction to Prince Louis' frolicking at the Jubilee ceremony.
"Engaging with the children was clearly important to Kate, whether it was hugging Prince Louis when he became restless, smiling cheerfully at him when he clearly loved the attention, or performing with her.
"There were moments when Louis grew frustrated, and his frolicking made for some very comical pictures, but Kate and William were also on hand to make sure the children were [well behaved]," the expert continued.
Stanton explained how the Duchess is not seen purely as an authority figure, but how she builds trust with her youngest son. She said, "When Kate interacts with Louis, you will notice that she keeps her face close to his.
"Being the same height and being able to maintain eye contact allows Kate to give Louis the reassurance and support he needs as a person. It is a powerful way to build trust as a mother."
Middleton made sure that Prince Louis did not get visibly angry if he scrunched up his face, shushed her, or otherwise lashed out. As Stanton explains, "Kate tried to respond in a calm, reassuring manner."
But that did not mean she accepted all of the 4-year-old's behavior. Stanton says, "Kate has several gestures that tell the children enough is enough, such as holding out her hand for Louis to stop."
"She would lean in toward Louis and speak directly to him, then lean back and direct his attention elsewhere when he continued his behavior. . and directs it toward him, indicating that she does not accept his behavior."
"She then turns her attention back to Louis," Stanton says.
Experts also see through Jubilee how much love and affection the Duchess clearly has for her young son.
