Prince William and Kate Middleton's Lillibet birthday skip was not "intentionally light"

Indeed, it was unfortunate timing that the Cambridge family was unable to attend Lilibet's first birthday party this past Saturday. But at least according to one source, it was indeed unfortunate timing.

It would be easy to read the Cambridges' June 4 trip to Wales as a disdain for the near-estranged Sussexes, who had invited them to celebrate their daughter's birthday with them, but apparently that is not the case.

"It's just a coincidence that it happened on the same day," a source told "Entertainment Tonight." 'There was no intentional disdain.'

Recall, Lili celebrated her first year of Bam Bam with a party at the Frogmore Cottage in Windsor in the middle of the Platinum Jubilee. But that day, Kate Middleton and Prince William (and as a sweet surprise, Prince George and Princess Charlotte) were scheduled to appear in Wales to represent the royal family. The Queen, meanwhile, was free that day after missing the Epsom Derby.

The last time Meghan Markle and Prince Harry visited the UK, the Cambridges were also away on a ski trip, but the Sussex couple's visit was apparently a last-minute decision. Certainly the timing was not right at that time, but it is not as if they flee the country every time the Sussexes come to visit. Or perhaps that would be a bit much.

Nevertheless, it seems that the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry was not particularly smooth during the Jubilee weekend: the elder prince was reportedly reluctant to spend time alone with his younger brother, and the two were not seen interacting in public. Frankly, this is very sad. I hope they can resolve this soon.
