A last-minute call from Prince Charles spurred the Queen's final Platinum Jubilee balcony appearance

More details are emerging about the Queen's Buckingham Palace balcony appearance last Sunday to close out the Platinum Jubilee, and they were heartwarming.

Her Majesty the Queen was absent from Windsor Castle for most of the rest of the weekend due to ongoing physical mobility issues and discomfort after two appearances on the balcony for Trooping the Colour on Thursday. She missed Thanksgiving in honor of Her Majesty at St. Paul's Cathedral on Friday, the Derby at Epsom Downs on Saturday and the Platinum Party at the Palace, and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on Sunday.

"The Queen decided to go to London about three hours before she left for the balcony," a source told the Mail on Sunday. The Queen wasn't feeling well, but the Crown Prince called and said she should come if she could. I told her there were a lot of people who wanted to see her, and I convinced her to come."

The Queen was also told that she was to be in the city on Thursday, and that she would be able to meet with the Prince.

After a huge crowd gathered for Thursday's Trooping the Colors, and again for Sunday's third and final balcony appearance, Her Majesty the Queen, just before stepping out onto the iconic balcony to conclude the Platinum Jubilee, the crowd below her "God Save the Queen ", she is said to have burst into tears as they sang "God Save the Queen.

"The queen was completely overwhelmed by the number of people waiting to see her," the magazine reported.

"The queen had tears in her eyes before she stepped out onto the balcony.

The Daily Mail reported that the Queen was "in tears and overwhelmed with emotion" at the public's reaction to her historic 70-year reign. Dressed in a bright green Stewart Purvin crepe wool dress and coat and matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan, Her Majesty the Queen stood painfully beside her three successors, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George, and their families for this historic moment. She stood and stood. The Daily Mail reported that "it may be the last time all four generations are seen at such a high-profile occasion.

The Queen is expected to spend her long summer vacation in Scotland, where Craigowan Lodge, a stone cottage at Balmoral Manor, is equipped with mobility aids, including a stairlift, the Daily Mail reported. He is scheduled to attend the Order of the Garter ceremony at St. George's Chapel in Windsor tomorrow, but will not join the procession or attend the service.

And royal historian Robert Lacey told PEOPLE magazine that Prince Charles' future role as king was visible throughout his platinum jubilee.

"The Queen sees this as the perfect opportunity to make the transition to the throne visible," he says.
