Why Did Kate Middleton Wear White on Windrush Day? Body Language Expert

Since much of the Duchess of Cambridge's work involves public appearances, what she wears is critical to establishing the image she gives to people.

A fashion-loving, savvy royal, Kate Middleton has mastered the art of choosing the right outfit for each event she attends (with the help of her styling team, of course), and her latest appearance at Windrush Day was no exception.

"Kate's choice of attire is always indicative of how she wants to be seen in a particular setting," body language expert Darren Stanton told "Marie Claire" on behalf of Slingo (opens in new tab).

"What she is wearing here is white. She wears white when she is trying to divert attention away from herself or when she wants all eyes to be on William instead."

"White is also the color she chooses when attending a more solemn and respectful event, where she wants the attention to be purely focused on the event itself."

On this day, which celebrates the Caribbean-British community, especially those who immigrated to the UK as part of the Windrush generation, the Duchess chose a white suit by Alexander McQueen.

"Although her choice of attire has caused her to step back from the spotlight, this has not stopped Kate from exuding confidence, and her power suit reflects the self-assurance she now has in carrying out her royal duties," Stanton continued.

"Kate's desire to give everyone equal attention also comes through in her body language." [For example, when I saw Kate interacting with William and another guest, she stood between them, clutching her bag, her body facing forward rather than toward whoever was speaking.

"This shows that Kate was unconsciously intent on ensuring that both were equally engaged in the conversation and that her attention was not directed at any particular individual."
