Prince William and Kate Middleton Show Their Support for the LGBTQIA+ Community During Pride Month

Prince William and Kate Middleton shared an Instagram post showing their support for the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month and introducing Shout, a British mental health charity. The organization places a high priority on supporting the mental health of LGBTQIA+ people.

"This #PrideMonth, we are highlighting @giveusashoutinsta and the amazing work they are doing to support the LGBTQIA+ community," wrote the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

"Over the past year, Shout has helped over 150,000 LGBTQIA+ email users here in the UK.

"If you need a conversation, Shout is there 24/7."

While issues involving LGBTQIA+ people are not an area of focus for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's philanthropic efforts, the Duke and Duchess have expressed support for the community in several ways in the past.

They visited the U.S. Embassy in London in 2016 in the aftermath of the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. In a letter of condolence there, they wrote, "Our deepest sympathies and thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected."

Prince William also visited the Albert Kennedy Trust in London in 2019 to learn about homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth.

There, he was asked how he would react if one of his three children came out as gay or queer.

"I've been thinking about it a little bit because other parents have said the same thing to me recently." He said, "I think you really don't start thinking about it until you become a parent, and I think - obviously I'm absolutely fine with that.

More recently, the duke praised soccer player Jake Daniels for his courageous decision to come out publicly as gay.

While the LGBTQIA+ cause is not one of the Cambridges' main causes, they do a lot of work on issues that greatly affect the community, particularly mental health, early childhood, and homelessness.
