Prince Harry, children Archie and Lilibet, see Princess Diana's "legacy"
Prince Harry paid his respects to Princess Diana on her 61st birthday. The Duke of Sussex spoke about how he sees his late mother in Archie and Lilibet, the children he had with his wife Meghan Markle.
"Not a day goes by in the last two and a half decades that I haven't thought about the footprint my mother left not only on me and my brother [Prince William], but on all of our lives," he said in a video speech at the virtual ceremony for the Diana Award on Friday. "My mother gave me a ...... voice and instilled in me the desire to fight for a better world."
The royal praised the award winners, adding, "I see my mother's legacy every time I meet with families, youth, and children around the world."
And he said he sees his mother in his children: "And every day when I look at my children, I see my mother's legacy."
Harry and Meghan had son Archie in May 2019 and daughter Lilibet in June 2021. Lilibet was given the middle name Diana in honor of her grandmother, who died in a car accident in August 1997 at age 36.
Harry often talks about keeping his mother's memory alive by talking about her with his children. We] talk [about my mother] very often," he told Hoda Kotb of The Today Show in April. I don't tell [Archie] everything that happened, but I say, 'This is Grandma Diana.'"
