Camilla's wedding gift to Kate, inadvertently making a gross comparison.
When Kate chooses the perfect accessorized outfit in the morning, no one doubts that she has plenty of bracelets to choose from. As royalty, jewelry is one of the defining perks of the job. However, one bracelet in particular has been conspicuously absent from Kate's outfits for public appearances.
The bracelet in question is a gold chain given to Kate as a wedding gift from her mother-in-law, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. The bracelet appeared numerous times at various events Kate attended in the years following her marriage to Prince William.
For example, this one in Santa Barbara in 2011:
According to "Express UK," the gold disks on the bracelet have a "C" for Camilla on one side and a coronation "C" for Princess Catherine on the other. This is reportedly intended to show that Camilla welcomes Kate as a member of her family and that she is there for her!
But leave it to the press to spoil the cuteness with not entirely off-the-wall comparisons to a gift Camilla once gave to Prince Charles: on his honeymoon with Princess Diana in 1981, Prince Charles wore a pair of gold cufflinks given to him by Camilla. 9]
Princess Diana later told her biographer that Prince Charles' ill-timed nod to her former lover made her feel "jealous, utterly jealous - the two "C "s were a very good idea, but in a way not that clever."
The two were not only "very good," but also "very good.
And while Charles' rather rude choice to wear them on his honeymoon with someone else is not really "Camilla's problem," it makes sense that some would raise an eyebrow at Kate's bracelet choice.
Nevertheless, Camilla doesn't seem to think she's being snarky just because the bracelets are out of Kate's wardrobe rotation: the two are reportedly closer than ever these days.
