New Book Says Meghan Markle Accused Victoria Beckham of Leaking to the Press
Tom Bower's new book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War of the Windsors is heavy on the (alleged) bombshells surrounding another of the world's most famous couples: the David and Victoria Beckhams.
The Beckhams were just two of the celebrity guests at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's lavish 2018 wedding, which apparently fell out when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex accused the Beckhams of leaking stories about them to the press, Bower claims in a new book released this week.
Bower claims that the Sussexes became "addicted" to reading about themselves in the media, worried that their secrets were being leaked to the British press through their famous friends, and relentlessly tried to find out if there were double agents in their inner circle.
"Harry and Meghan were shackled," Bower writes. Harry and Meghan were shackled," Bower writes. Irrationally, they grouped the two together and encouraged each other's enthusiasm for the media. Convinced that they were champions of good and persecuted by mendacity and racism, they felt victimized by even mild criticism."
Meghan was "suspicious of Victoria Beckham's indiscretions," Bower wrote, and the author also noted that "Harry's instability fueled Meghan's fears that her friends were leaking stories to the media," the Mirror reported. The book claims that there were tense phone calls between Harry and David as Meghan reportedly accused Victoria.
"Harry called David Beckham and repeated his accusations," Bower wrote. An outraged Beckham denied the truth, damaging their relationship."
It is unclear exactly when this tense phone call took place, but The Sun reported in 2020 that David "quickly set Harry straight and they agreed to move on, but it certainly became awkward for a while." The awkwardness apparently continues to this day: according to the Mirror, the two had an "awkward encounter" at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last month.
