Buckingham Palace Responds After Royal Family Maid Arrested at 'Out of Control' Christmas Party
If you assumed that working for the Royal Family was strictly professional, you were apparently mistaken. According to multiple reports, this year's Christmas party for the Buckingham Palace staff got a little out of hand, even leading to one of them being arrested.
According to The Sun, after pre-party drinks at Buckingham Palace, about 50 staff members attended a planned party at All Bar One in London. However, it reportedly did not take long for the party to get completely “out of control,” and the magazine reported that “a woman who appeared to be a housemaid was arrested for punching the manager and breaking a glass. A source said the party was a “tough night” for all involved.
Regarding the alleged incident, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department told Hello! magazine, “On Tuesday, December 10, officers were called to a bar on Victoria Street, SW1, after receiving a report that a customer had broken a glass and attempted to assault a staff member.”
“Officers responded and arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of general assault, criminal damage, and drunk and disorderly,” the Metropolitan Police Department statement continued. She was taken into custody and released the following evening.”
Buckingham Palace commented on the Christmas party, saying, “We are aware that a number of house hold staff who had previously attended an early evening reception at the Palace were involved in an incident outside their workplace. The statement continued, “While this was an informal social occasion and not an official Palace Christmas party, the facts will be fully investigated and a robust disciplinary process will be followed regarding individual staff members and appropriate action will be taken.
Regarding the events that allegedly took place at the party, a source told The Sun, “She was a very good person. She was on another level.”
Elaborating on the altercation, a source claimed to the magazine, “She started breaking glasses and cursing at the staff, so we had to call the police.” Another source claimed, “It was a crazy night, we were incredibly busy and we had to deal with so many reservations.”
Presumably, the Royal Family Christmas party at Sandringham will be a bit more sedate than the staff event. Indeed, Prince William recently spoke about his Christmas plans, but they appear to have been very low-key.
