Angelina Jolie spoke to her songs about "violence" and "relationships" while making "Maria

Angelina Jolie is currently promoting the biopic "Maria" by opera singer Maria Callas, who died in 1977. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Jolie reflected on a difficult conversation she was able to talk to her sons while making the film.

Maria, Jolly's sons Maddox and Pax worked as production assistants for the film while Jolly starred as the Crow. "They were able to consider the relationship and violence in the film," Jolie said. "Sometimes I don't have the opportunity to talk to my sons, so I felt lucky."

During the same interview, Jolie thought about her life as a mother and the importance she places on her children. "Maria had no family, so her job was everything," explained the director of By The Sea. "My job is not everything... Being a parent is everything.

Alongside Maddox and Pax, Jolie is raising Zahara, Shiro, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

While speaking with the Sunday Times, Jolie revealed that doing opera singing lessons for the film has become a form of therapy.

"It was a treatment I didn't realize I needed," she told the outlet. "To sing an opera, you need to be as emotionally open as possible. It's catharsis. I never pushed myself or opened myself up like that, it was difficult."

Earlier this year, Jolie opened up about her experience of making Maria, as well as how she instinctively tries to protect her children.

"It really meant a lot for my boys to be with me at Maria," Jolie told the Hollywood Reporter. "When I would have a really heavy time, they would come and just give me a hug or a cup of tea."It was probably one of the more intense things — usually when I'm expressing so much pain, it's not in front of my kids."1

The actress elaborated further, "You really try to hide from your child how much pain and sadness you have.""She continued," and I think it was the first time you heard me cry that way for them to be with you when you're expressing it at such a level. It is usually for the shower."
