Duchess Sophie has taken over a major role from another member of the royal family
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, had a busy year as a member of the Royal Family. Described as Princess Kate's 'royal sister', Sophie stepped into a new role when she led the armistice service at the National Arboretum Solo in England earlier this month. She is also described as the "secret weapon of the Royal family" because she is reportedly very professional. Now the Duchess Sophie has taken over an important royal role from another family.
On Monday, Nov. 25 (Upi)ン Charity Plan International UK announced that the Duchess of Cambridge will take over as a patron of the royal family. Sophie's late father-in-law, Prince Philip, had previously played the role.
Announcing the exciting news, Plan International Uk wrote in x, "As a champion of women's rights, the Duchess is witnessing first-hand the impact conflict and crisis can have on young women and girls." We look forward to working with the Duchess to raise awareness of the barriers facing girls around the world."
In a press release, Plan International said of Sophie's appointment, "The vocal champion of women's rights, the Duchess will directly witness the impact of the conflict More than 1,000 million people have been forced to evacuate in Sudan and a high proportion of women and children arriving as refugees in Chad.""
The press release continued," the Duchess has pledged to continue her work in this area as part of her new role as patron of Plan International UK. Her Royal Highness supports the charity's work to end violence against women and girls in conflict and crisis settings, one of the barriers facing girls around the world."
Rose Caldwell, CEO of Plan International UK, said of Sophie's new position: "Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh will be the first lady of Plan International. We are delighted to have agreed to become the new patron of NARU UK."
Caldwell continued, "Too many girls around the world can't go to school, feel unsafe, are not in control of their bodies and outdated, unfair stereotypes." By becoming the guardian of our royal family, the Duchess has shown the power to stand with girls all over the world, so they can make changes in their lives and beyond."
