Kate Middleton has a huge decision to make about the future of Prince George
There are tough decisions on the horizon for Kate Middleton and Prince William—and that's what they've reportedly clashed with.
The Prince of Wales has always prioritised doing the best for his 3 children, Prince George (11 years old), Prince Charlotte (9 years old) and Prince Lewis (6 years old), which also includes choosing the best school for them to attend.
When the family was based in London, their children attended Thomas' school in Battersea, London, and George, Charlotte and Louis were attending Rambrook, an independent prep school in Berkshire, as the family moved to Adelaide Cottage near Windsor Castle in 2022. Soon, however, Prince George will have to finish prep school and change school again - and the decision about where to send him when it happens is reportedly weighing on Kate, especially.
The proposal of tension between Will and Kate about George's education is nothing new — it has long been reported that William wants George to follow in his footsteps and attend his alma mater, the prestigious boarding school Eton College, and Kate is very opposed to the idea.
"Kate Long objected to her husband about sending him, despite it being a tradition," a royal source told In Touch Weekly in 2023/10.
Sources claimed that Will and Kate discussed the decision for years and that George "wanted to be like his father" eventually tipped the scales in favor of Eton. Even then, the insider added that despite Kate "finally succumbing, she is still heartbroken."
"Kate believes that sending him to such a stifling, upper-crust institution runs counter to all their efforts to modernize the monarchy," a royal source told OK in 2023. In addition, she will miss George desperately.
Speaking to the Mirror, Royal expert Katie Nicol explained that Kate would prefer to attend a co-ed school (Eton is all boys' school) so that all of the Welsh children could attend school together, Kate had her sister, Pippa, and brother, John. All Middleton's brothers attended Marlborough University, as they did with James.
While George has already taken his first set of entrance exams for Eton University, Nicholl says Kate's preference could eventually win
"There is always a chance that tradition will change," she says. "William and Harry are not going to follow in their father's footsteps by going to Gordonstown, Scotland, and whatever happens somewhere else when George breaks the Eton mold, it's a decision made by William and Kate, taking into account George's best interests."
