Taylor Swift fans are melting in trying to decipher the hand gestures she made at the latest Eras Tour Stop
Put out the evidence plate and the red string, Swift, because Taylor Swift has dropped a clue about the countdown...Something
Sometimes, Swift's hints about Easter eggs and things to come are subtle, and other times, they just aren't.The current countdown clue that fans are Melting falls into the latter category in pure can't-miss-that-it's-a-thing terms: this is definitely not an instance of a fan reading deeply into something harmless or unintended.
The moment that triggered this round of Swiftie theorizing came during Swift's performance of "Midnight Rain" while in Toronto for last week's Eras tour. During that song, Swift usually takes another pose after singing the lyrics, "And he doesn't think of me, except when I'm on TV," and during the night between 5 and 6 in Toronto (11 May 22 and 23), she revealed that the countdown is on.
On the night of the 5th, she used that moment to count down from 5 to 4 with her fingers. This is the moment that fans of the show captured on tiktok and immediately shared.
The next night, Swift used the same moment to count down from four to three, prompting screams from the crowd.
"We officially have a countdown!"! The text in the video posted by TikTok user @lyricalsmiledesigns read "From last night 4 to last night 3" and the caption of the post read "4...3...Countdown time. But what do you think you were counting down? Era Tour Finale' or something else...Night 6 Times tour of Toronto."
While some fans speculate that the countdown could be an announcement or release (probably related to her sixth album, reputed long-awaited re-recording), many seem to think she's counting down to the end of the Eras tour, which ends on just 8 May. It seems to end after the last three shows in Vancouver, Canada.
Yet others prefer Swift to let fans know that it is a combination of 2 and the countdown will make a big announcement on the last night of the Eras tour
"I mean she won't just count down to the last show because it's the last show." It will be...Right "Something special happened..........right??? (I'm not sane)," one user wrote in a comment on a Night6 video shared by @lyricalsmiledesigns on Tiktok.
Given Swift's open love for Easter eggs and giving her fans clues about what she's coming up with, this count
"I think the best message is cryptic," she once explained in a video for Entertainment Weekly. "Easter eggs can be left on clothes and jewelry. This is one of my favorite ways to do this because you are wearing something that foresees something else and people usually find this quickly and they will understand it in time. Many examples of this exist throughout my career history."
