Paul Mezcal was not excited to meet King Charles, and his reaction is widespread by word of mouth.
The cast of Gladiator II met King Charles at the London premiere of the film last week. But the star Paul Mezcal, for very understandable reasons, was not very excited to meet the monarch. Still, the actor's reaction to meeting the king of ordinary people has gone viral.
It has been reported earlier that Denzel Washington is said to have told fans to "make their own rules" when asked to see the king. Now Mezcal is sharing his own response to greet the monarch on the red carpet.
When asked by Variety (Via X) if it was "wild" to meet the British monarch, Mescal replied, "That's definitely not what was on my bingo card."He continued, "I'm, like, Irish — so it's not like a list of priorities.
Mezcal was not particularly obsessed with King Charles, but he acknowledged how special the moment was for the director of Gladiator II."But it's amazing because we know how important it is to Ridley [Scott] for him," Mezcal told Variety. "So it was pretty special to see his films celebrated in that context.
As for things like meeting Charles in the flesh, Mezcal explained: "I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that I am not going to say that You're just nodding and just laughing.
Unsurprisingly, Mezcal's reaction caused some interest on social media, with some fans expressing bewilderment about the question itself.
"The reporter asking the question, do you think the king is also the king of Ireland?"One user wrote on X. One person joked, "Paul Mezcal was the only king there."Another individual wrote," Paul Mescal bites his tongue cleanly when asked for an opinion about meeting the king.
During an interview with CBS News, Mezcal revealed that he was cast as the lead in Gladiator II after a 30・minute zoom call with director Ridley Scott.
"I got a call and they said, 'You're going to be in Gladiator II,'" he explained. "It's like massive life-changing news to receive."
About working with legendary directors of films like Alien, Blade Runner, and Gucci's House, Mezcal told the outlet, "I was Ridley Scott
and, when it came to acting in opposition to Oscar winner Denzel Washington, Mezcal was the best actor." "Every scene I went with him was very thrilling that I saw him do it and being 5 feet in front of his face."
