Riley Keough opens up about the curse of the Presley family as the sole heir to Graceland
Riley Keough has opened up about the curse of the so-called Presley family and how he feels to be Graceland's sole heir.
Keough talked about her famous family while promoting her late mother Lisa Marie Presley's memoir, From Here to The Great Unknown, at a Los Angeles stop on her book tour. Before completing the project, the actress Zola intervened to complete her memoir in 2023, when her mother suddenly died on 1 January.
Speaking to moderator Taylor Jenkins Reid, Keough said (via people), "On this book tour, we are often asked "How did you avoid the curse of Presleys?"And that's such a strange question."I think the word "curse" is used because my family is seen as this "not real" myth or something, but it's actually very common, like addiction,
In 2023, Keough's mom, Lisa Marie, was determined to have died because of complications after bariatric surgery. From here to the great unknown, it was also revealed that Lisa Marie experienced drug addiction during her life.
Keough's grandfather, Elvis, died of heart disease and "very high levels of the opiates Dilaudid, Percodan, Demerol and codeine, as well as Quaaludes" were discovered in his blood at the time of his death, reported Today. Keough's brother, Benjamin Keough, died of suicide in 2020 after reportedly dealing with alcoholism and drug addiction on May 7.
"Everyone here loves someone who has an addiction problem or has tragically lost someone," Daisy Jones and the Six Star explained. "That is, we hope that future generations of our families will not struggle that much with addiction. Of course, that's the dream.
Following the death of her mother, Keough became the sole heir to Graceland, the estate of Elvis's palace. "It's interesting because I've spent much of my life and career actually living in a world where it wasn't at the forefront," Keough said of the property.
After her mom died, Keough came into the limelight when she came to Graceland, but she was already heavily involved in making decisions about property. "I was already very involved in it," she explained. "So, "Oops, what is this new thing?""My mother will come to me with everything."Keough continued, "It was basically nothing new, I would say — but I would say the attention about it is new."
