Prince William and Kate Middleton did not just move into the "modest" Windsor house to approach Queen Elizabeth, royal experts said.
Kate Middleton and Prince William once lived in a luxury house in Kensington Palace, but according to one royal expert, the couple "surprised many" when they decided to move to Windsor with their luggage in 2022. It was mainly reported that Kate and William wanted to get closer to Queen Elizabeth, who lived at Windsor Castle at the time, but it turned out that this move made sense for many other reasons.
The princes and princesses of Wales now live in Adelaide Cottage, a property about 200 years ago built in 1831 as a summer retreat for the Queen of Adelaide.According to Architectural digest. With only 4 bedrooms and no staff accommodation, it is much smaller than the 20-storey KP Residence, which includes 4 large rooms.
In addition to the benefits of being close to Windsor Castle and William's grandmother (who passed away a few months after moving), some royal experts were surprised to find a more "modest" house
"Since many people moved in," Royal specialist Duncan Larcombe told OK Magazine (Hi!). "There are many other places I've moved to, but Adelaide Cottage suits my parents' desire to be a normal family without servants.
Princes and princesses can enjoy a more private life because they do not have room for live-in staff. "William wanted to take the kids around him, in the room next to where he was sleeping," Larcombe continued.
If you've been to Kensington Palace as a tourist, you know that privacy is not exactly the selling point of the property. When a Welsh family travels by helicopter, it literally lands in their backyard along a fenced area accessible to the public - I've witnessed on several occasions. Moving to the Private Windsor Estate means none of that scrutiny from people strolling through the park.
Author Katie Nicol told OK that the family was "very, very happy" at the Adelaide Cottage. "Being able to live in the middle of Windsor Home Park allows them to go in and out with complete privacy without being overlooked, and downsize from Kensington Palace is worth it at every level."
Unfortunately, their quiet existence recently experienced a bit of shaking when masked thieves broke into a farm on the estate at Windsor Castle. After stealing 2 cars, the thief crashed through a gate used by a Welsh family to access their home.
Security aside, the family seems to be thriving in Windsor. "There is not a huge amount of space, but Adelaide Cottage ticks all the right boxes," added Nicole.
