Why did Queen Camilla Meet the Spice Girl at Buckingham Palace

When Queen Camilla invited this spice girl to the palace, she said she was there.

Geri Halliwell-Horner, better known as Ginger Spice, joined the Queen for a special reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday. 21 to honor young writers from across the Commonwealth of nations. The pop star, who has been an advocate for literacy-based charities, was one of the famous faces who celebrated the winners and finalists of the 2024 Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition on May 1.

Although Queen Camilla was forced to cancel her appearance at the Royal Variety Performance on May 11. 22 Because of a "lingering" chest infection, she appeared to be in good spirits as she chatted with the "Say You'll Be There" singer at Thursday's reception. Halliwell-Horner is an ambassador for the British Commonwealth Association and advocates literacy in the UK.

And Queen Camilla is not the only royal family the star has cooperated with.The Spice Girl has partnered with Prince William to launch the Homewares program to end homelessness in 2023.

In addition to being a member of one of the most iconic pop groups in history, the singer has served as an ambassador for a number of charities, including the United Nations Population Fund.1 As well as promoting literacy in the UK, she works with the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy in the US.

During Thursday's reception, Queen Camilla paid tribute to the winners of the 2024 Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition, the world's oldest writing competition for schools, launched in 1883 per Buckingham Palace. Out of nearly 35,000 entries worldwide, two winners were selected in the Senior category and the Junior category.

During her speech, Camilla shared a little story about the late Queen's mother and stated that she was given a copy of Mary Poppins "In 1934, the year it was published, it belonged to my husband's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth's mother.

As for Halliwell Horner, she's not the first spice girl to have a brush with royalty. In 2018, the pop star shared adorable photos of the entire group posing with young Prince Harry and King Charles in the 90s, and of course Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) attended the royal wedding of both Prince Harry and Prince William.

And while Queen Camilla may have missed out on a Royal Variety performance in 2024, it turns out that the Spice Girls once took to the stage at the event and shook hands with Queen Elizabeth during a Royal Variety Charity performance in 1997. It was a great experience.
