OG Glinda Kristin Chenoweth reacts to Ariana Grande claiming the 'evil' character is 'a bit in the closet'

Broadway star and original Glinda Christine Chenoweth has her own thoughts about the sexuality of a fictional evil character.

During a recent video interview with the Gay Times published on Friday, Nov. 21, Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda in the new film adaptation of the Broadway Show, believes that her character is probably "in the closet" and

"Elfi, I think she goes wherever the wind blows," and Cynthia Erivo tells her character, Elfi. I said about Rufaba. "I think she loves Glinda. I think she loves love. And I don't think there's anything wrong with celebrating the deep connection they both have.

Grande then says that the characters have created such "safe spaces for each other," and that is what every relationship should be, whether romantic or platonic.

"Glinda may be a bit in the closet," she added. "You never know!

In the Comments section of an Instagram post highlighting Grande's comments, Chenoweth, who began the role of Glinda on Broadway's Wicked in 2003, weighed in on her own thoughts on the character's sexuality.

"Back when I thought so too.... The Broadway star wrote in reference to the idea that Glinda may have been gay.

In the same interview with the Gay Times, Grande explained that she believes that the connection between Glinda and Elfaba is simply a manifestation of "true love"

"I think it transcends sexuality," she continued. "It's deep security within each other, that's why [the fans] probably [the relationship] is it."

While promoting a new evil movie, Grande and Erivo enjoy a close friendship, and sometimes get emotional about their connections both on-screen and off-screen.

"I think we found a small part of ourselves in each other," Erivo said in an interview while holding Jake's take and Grande's hand, "I think there's a small fragment that each of us was a bit lacking when we first started when we gathered together to do this." It's a good idea.”
