Since Alaïa released the iconic buckle ballet shoes, fashion girls everywhere have been asking to reach out and put their feet in. The rhinestone-encrusted design has become the gold standard for footwear enthusiasts as a hot ticket item worn by the most stylish (and, with pop1,290 pop, the richest).

Not surprisingly, almost everyone in Hollywood, including Jennifer Lawrence, Sofia Richie Grainge and Anne Hathaway, owns several versions of this style, either from the brand itself or from one of the many replicators.1 Rihanna, for example, was a big fan of Alaia's flashy black leather iteration, which she wore again and again in 2023.

But this year the makeup mogul moved to another style — the design is similar, but much more modern. In May. On May 10, she was photographed perched on a bench in front of her own Fenty Beauty campaign. She looked characteristically chic, with a simple look that rose with playful accessories. Her base layer was simple: an oversized white tee and a black stain maxi skirt. But the avocado green feather scarf she layered on top added a little uniqueness.

However, her shoes were easily the most notable aspect of appearance. She wore what looked like a chain mail flat, featuring a black leather trim and buckled top strap. The brand is not clear, but these may be unpublished styles that will be released soon.

Rihanna launched her new flat while visiting Barbados for the official Caribbean debut of soft-Fenty Beauty. At the event of the official brand, she came out wearing sandals and beach dresses with the heels of Cult Gaia and Zimmerman.
