Prince William recognizes the actress who once played his grandmother in great honor

It's not every day that on-screen royals encounter actual members of the Royal Family, but Tuesday, nov. 12, Prince William met with the actress, who played his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth 2, on a small screen.

The Prince of Wales honored Imelda Staunton, whose portrayal of the late Monarch of the Queen won Emmy, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations, by naming her as a Dame Commander of the British Empire during her investiture at Windsor Castle.

Stanton played Queen Elizabeth in the last 2 seasons of the Netflix Royal drama, per Buckingham Palace, the actress received damehood for her services to drama and charity.

It turned out that she also shared common ground with Prince William.Like the Prince of Wales, Stanton is passionate about ending homelessness and has served as an ambassador for the charity Crisis.

The Harry Potter actress was joined by her equally famous husband, Jim Carter, a.k.a. Carson of Downton Abbey), as well as their daughter, Bessie Carter, has starred as Prudence Featherington of Bridgerton. Talk about one talented family.

The news of her damehood was announced in honor of the King's birthday this summer, and at the time Staunton (via the BBC) said, "Theatre, film and television are essential to our well-being, stand at the heart of our culture and are admired around the world. I am proud to have played my part in this important industry.

Along with Stanton, William also met another famous face at Windsor Castle and presented Duran Duran's frontman Simon Lebon MBE (member of the Order of the British Empire) for his service to music and philanthropy.
