Prince William reveals similarities with his brother, Prince Harry, during a visit to South Africa.
Prince William has followed in his father's environmental footsteps over the years, most notably with the creation of the Earthshot Prize. Another passion he inherited from Prince Charles, as Prince Charles took Prince William and Prince Harry to Africa as boys, is his love for Africa, a love that the Prince shared with his brother during a visit to Cape Town, South Africa, for the 2024 Earthshot Prize. He spoke about the love for Africa that he shares with his brother.
While walking the green carpet at the fourth annual Earthshot Awards ceremony on Wednesday, November 6, William told reporters (via People) that it “feels good” and “really nice” to be in Cape Town.
The crown prince said he had been “looking forward to the African earth shots for a long time,” adding, “I love the African continent and I am very happy to be here in Africa.”
Like Prince Harry, William has often expressed that he feels Africa is his home and spoke of his deep connection to the continent at the event.
“Africa has been a big part of my life since I was a little boy, ever since I first came to Africa. I've felt a real connection to the place, both spiritually and in terms of the environment and the people.”
Prince of Wales continued that he feels a “warm welcome” when he travels. William continued, “Every time I come here, I get to be myself and get away from everything that happens in my normal life.” It's a really special place for me, a home away from home.
Prince Harry visited South Africa on a solo trip with Prince Charles a few weeks after the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and, like William, fell in love with the continent. Like his brother, who proposed to Kate Middleton in Africa, he shared his favorite places with his wife Meghan Markle, even bringing her to Botswana on their third date.
Today, he continues his commitment to Africa and its people through Sentebale, a charity he co-founded with Prince Siso of Lesotho; in October, the Duke of Sussex visited Lesotho and South Africa to showcase Sentebale's work with youth.
In Lesotho, Harry received the same “warm welcome” that Prince William spoke of in Cape Town. We affectionately call Prince Harry by his royal Sesotho name, which means “warrior,” Prince Seiso said in a statement prior to the duke's visit.
As for Prince William, he wrapped up his November 7 visit to South Africa with a series of events focused on sustainability, along with a seaside barbecue with supermodel friends (and Earthshot ambassadors) Heidi Klum and Winnie Harlow.
