Kamala Harris' stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, reacts to Trump victory

Kamala Harris' stepdaughter Ella Emhoff reacted to Donald Trump winning the presidential election over her stepmother.

On November 7, Ella published an upset-looking Getty photo on Instagram Stories with the caption, “I really have no words. We will get through this. It just fucking hurts right now, but that's ok. The fight is not going to stop. Just need you to check in with your buddies right now.”

The artist added, “Now is the time to organize, mobilize, and make a difference in communities big and small.”

She concluded, “I am here for all of you and I love you.”

Ella, 25, and her brother, Cole Emhoff, 29, are the children of a second gentleman, Doug Emhoff. He and Kamala Harris were married in 2014, and Vice President Harris has spoken many times about his close bond with his stepchildren.

In an essay for ELLE in 2019 (republished in July 2024), the vice president revealed that he is a “momala” to Cole and Ella and that he balances his responsibilities to his family with his responsibilities to his country.

“Fortunately, Ella and Cole understand that. They are a source of my boundless love and pure joy.” I am so grateful to Doug, Kirsten (Cole and Ella's mother), and most of all Ella and Cole. In the past few weeks alone, they have visited South Carolina, Iowa, New Hampshire, Ohio, Nevada, and Michigan.

Harris ceded the presidency to Trump earlier this week, and many celebrities, including Olivia Rodrigo, Lili Reinhart, and Jimmy Kimmel, expressed deep upset at the outcome.
