Is Princess Kate planning a Christmas party to “rival” the festivities of Prince Charles and Queen Camilla?
The British Royal Family has many Christmas traditions, including spending Christmas at Sandringham Manor in Norfolk. But 2024 may be a little different.
After a difficult year in which Princess Kate and King Charles both announced that they had been diagnosed with cancer, Christmas may include some new traditions. According to the Daily Beast, “William and Kate are expected to host a ‘rival Christmas party’ at their Sandringham Manor home, Anmer Hall, with Kate's family, including her parents Mike and Carol, in attendance.”
Unlike past formal Christmas parties held impeccably by Queen Elizabeth, Kate Middleton's festivities “will be noted for its studied informality,” the magazine reported.
The magazine also cited sources suggesting that other members of the royal family “are keeping an eye on Prince Charles' health in the coming months before making plans.”
The Daily Beast also reported that one of Prince Andrew's friends claimed, “It will be a quieter Christmas than last year, but the question is how quiet? This year we will have to wait and see.”
The magazine suggested that the royal family's annual Boxing Day hunt would still take place, but that Prince William would take over from his father as leader of the hunt.
As for how the public will perceive Kate and William's Christmas plans, a source said, “More messaging this year ...... ...... for a “middle-class flavor” that emphasizes eating chocolate, having movie marathons, and generally sliding off the couch in a tryptophan haze like everyone else.” He told the magazine to expect the same.
Kate and William are also expected to share private family Christmas moments on social media. A former royal courtier told the magazine, “A little social media coverage of the family eating chocolate and watching TV would be a very effective way of showing how normal Christmas is at Anmer Hall compared to what you hear at Sandringham.”
