Why Prince William grew a beard and changed his style after Princess Kate's cancer battle.

In August, Prince William showed off his muscular new beard in a social media video celebrating the GB team's success at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now, a royal commentator has revealed why Prince William has embraced the new look.

Royal fans immediately began clamoring for William's new beard. As a result, when Prince William shaved his beard for an event, many fans expressed their displeasure online. Since then, the prince seems to have embraced the new style, hinting that the beard has been well received.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, body language expert Judy James discussed Prince William's dramatic change by growing a beard and choosing more casual attire.

“Prince William's recent style changes and his cautious and less formal demeanor seem to indicate both a growing confidence in his ascension to the throne and an update of his priorities since Kate and his father's illness,” James said.

James also noted that “some of the signals of inherent shyness have diminished, and as a result he appears to be more immersed and willing to be more relaxed.”

The Daily Mail also noted that Prince William has reportedly begun working with Princess Kate's stylist, Natasha Archer. Meanwhile, body language expert James suggested that Kate and William's three children (Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis) may have influenced their father's wardrobe.

“William has three children who often comment and joke about their father's outdated attire, especially since he seems to be spending more and more time with them these days, and they are getting to the age where they are starting to quietly revolutionize his look,” James told the outlet.

William has had to juggle more royal responsibilities since his father King Charles' cancer diagnosis. This seems to be preparing him for his future as king.

James told the outlet, “Stepping up to approach the throne may have created pressure as his responsibilities increased, but pressure and stress often decrease as feelings of control increase, and William's recent outings to his grandmother and father It seems to imply that he feels more in control of his destiny as royalty than he did when he was answering them.”

Body language experts also noted that William appears to have a more relaxed demeanor when dealing with the press.

“Perhaps the key quality being exhibited in this more relaxed and open body language is slow, learned trust,” she explained. Many of the barbs in his life have come from within his own closest family group, and perhaps he finally understands, feels, and appreciates the strong support and affection he enjoys from the public.”
