Why Pippa Middleton and her husband reportedly offended their neighbors

As Princess Kate's sister, Pippa Middleton has often been in the spotlight. Now, according to new reports, Kate Middleton's siblings are involved in a neighborhood dispute over access to her property.

Pippa lives with her husband, financier James Matthews, and their three children, Arthur, 5, Grace, 3, and Rose, 1, on the 145-acre property in West Berkshire.

According to the Mail on Sunday, the estate's previous owners “allowed locals to use the country road leading to the Georgian mansion's private drive.”

The family has lived on the property since 2022, but they recently “decided to keep walkers off the property by putting up signs warning them that the property is ‘private property:’ ‘No public access’ and ‘No trespassing,’” the Mail on Sunday reported.

One local resident told the magazine, “I don't know why I can't walk there, I like walking. I have walked there for 50 years. When Sir Terence had it, there was no opposition. I think we should have the right to walk around.” [The person went on to tell the Mail on Sunday, “I don't think it's right. I don't think it is right. We are quiet villagers. There is no vandalism around here. It's all stickups, it's like us and them.”

Another local resident also complained to the tabloid, “It's a nice walking path. It's a nice walking path.” It wasn't a formal footpath, but Sir Terence didn't object. He was a very nice man. Everybody liked him. He was very involved in the village.”

The decision to restrict the Pippas' access to their land obviously upset many people. 'It feels like they are taking away amenities from the village. Villagers may get the impression that they are throwing their burdens away.”

However, the Pippa family confirms that they follow the rules when it comes to their property. The Matthews reportedly filed a Highway Declaration Notice with West Berkshire Council and were able to claim that the land is privately owned. The Mail on Sunday also reports that at least some locals are in favor of Pippa and Matthews' decision to protect their privacy.
