Cynthia Erivo transforms into an evil wizard at the 2024 CFDA Awards

Cynthia Erivo has been dressing for weeks for her role as Elphaba in the highly anticipated film “Wicked.” However, her best look was actually designed to host the 2024 CFDA Awards, and on Monday, October 28, the British actor graced the event's white carpet in a custom-made black velvet mermaid gown with a dramatic wizard hood! . Conceived by Gap Creative Director Zac Posen, the dress was the perfect blend of Elphaba's soft goth aesthetic and Elivo's own style sense, which tends to favor voluptuous, sculptural silhouettes.

Elivo and her stylist Jason Bolden added burgundy eyeliner to her gown in a nod to the burgundy trend, as well as a yellow gold collar necklace featuring jade-colored nails and a curled snake tail. The choker, designed by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. cost a whopping $21,000.

But her best accessories were long green, red, and black stiletto nails covered with flames, snakes, and jewels. Created by nail artist Rose Huckle, the nails were first unveiled at the Academy Museum Gala on October 19. Since then, it appears that several crosses have been added to her ring finger for dramatic effect. While we can't say for sure without confirmation from Huckle herself, it's likely that some of these nail shades came from the Wicked x OPI nail collection. Elivo became OPI's global ambassador about a month before the collection was launched.

Although she is not American, it was an appropriate choice for the Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award-winning singer to host the 2024 CFDA Awards.

“As a born and raised Londoner, I can say with confidence that England has its own unique sense of style, but when I moved to New York City about 10 years ago, I was welcomed with open arms by the New York fashion industry,” Erivo explained in a press Elivo explained in a press release ahead of the event. I was blown away by its originality and sense of style and felt right at home. American style has clearly influenced me in the years since I came to New York, and New York style has warmly embraced me.”

Indeed, whether it's the fantastic hooded numbers or the high notes of “Defying Gravity,” there seems to be nothing Elivo can't do.
