Ariana Grande's “Wizard of Oz” Book Clutch is the Best “Wicked” Accessory Ever
Hollywood's method dressing trend may be going out of style, but the sartorial staging is alive and well on the Wicked red carpet. For the past few months, Ariana Grande has been creating outfits inspired by Glinda the Good Witch. And even when she's out of her baby pink uniform, Grande's look still includes homages to the upcoming film.
Yesterday, the pop star posted an outfit on Instagram Stories that is very unlike Glinda. She wore an all-black Chanel mini-dress accented with gold buttons and an embroidered CC log on the breast pocket. The design was preppy, but the dark color palette was light years away from the pastel “fits” she has been wearing lately.
However, there was a distinctly wicked-inspired aspect to her outfit. Grande carried a book-shaped clutch bag covered in intricate rose stitching and Wizard of Oz lettering. This whimsical design was made to look like a real-life copy of the famous fairy tale.
Later in the day, Grande debuted another look that embraced Wicked's aesthetic: at an October 28 screening in New York City, the stars of the film showed up dressed for the Emerald City. Grande wore an ivory Versace custom-made swing dress. The blazer-inspired bodice was highlighted by an asymmetrical hem and crystal-encrusted buttons that accentuated her witchy look. Styled by Mimi Cattrell, elbow-length opera gloves and white pointed-toe pumps also made an appearance.
Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, was dressed in the same colors as her role. She wore an edgy casual look with straight-leg jeans, a white T-shirt, and a funky Louis Vuitton jacket covered in green swirls.
With only a month until the film's official release, there must be many more chapters left in Grande's Glinda-inspired red carpet style.
