Why Prince Charles is determined to make 2025 a “normal” year

Let's be honest, 2024 was not the most joyous year for the royal family, as King Charles III announced his cancer diagnosis in February and Kate Middleton broke the news of her own cancer in March, making it a quiet year in terms of royal appearances and happy moments. As for 2025, however, the King is trying to get back to basics. [On Friday, October 25, after Prince Charles and Queen Camilla finished their tour of Australia and Samoa, a Palace official told The Guardian, “We are now working quite normally on our overseas tour program for next year.”

The official added that these plans were “on the high side” as the King's team finished its tour; looking ahead to 2025, the official said he was “relieved to know that with the doctors' approval we can think about that.”

King Charles has continued his outpatient treatment for cancer this year, temporarily interrupting his treatment for a trip to the South Pacific.

“I think it is a great testament to the King's dedication to service and duty that he was prepared to come this far and that he was incredibly happy and very, very determined,” a Palace official told the newspaper. For the King, the extended overseas visit was generally regarded as a success, despite recent republican sentiment in Australia.

“In that sense, the tour was a perfect tonic, despite its demands,” the official concluded.

King Charles appears to be making a “normal” recovery, but it remains to be seen whether he and his wife will make their annual overseas visit as usual as they continue to recover from cancer; in 2024, the couple was forced to cancel their first official visit to Italy, and it is not yet known when that visit will resume. It has not yet been determined when that visit will resume.

However, the princess announced in September that she had finished chemotherapy and would gradually return to work; in December, Princess Kate will attend the annual Christmas carol concert and is “likely to attend” the state dinner of the Qatari King Amir, also in early December. A royal historian told “Marie Claire” that Princess Kate “is likely to attend” the annual Christmas carol concert in December, as well as the state dinner of the Amir of Qatar in early December.
