Princess Kate's touching letter to the actress who battled cancer
Kate Middleton knows what it's like to battle serious health issues as she continues her recovery from cancer this year, and now she has reached out to send a message of support to another woman facing a similar battle.
According to multiple news outlets, the Princess of Wales sent a letter to Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, who has been a strong supporter of cancer awareness charities since her recovery from stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2013.
“I wanted to express my feelings to Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, especially because of my own experience,” Koirala said in a statement. 'I am very touched to receive such a warm response from Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales, and I am sure that she will be very pleased to hear from you.'
The Netflix star was diagnosed in 2012 and underwent life-saving treatment and surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, according to the Hindustan Times.
In a statement, Koirala said she “wants to use her voice not only to help cancer patients, but also to raise awareness about the need for equitable access to healthcare and the importance of knowing the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.”
She went on to say that as a cancer survivor, she understands “how lonely and difficult that journey can be.”
Nevertheless, Koirala stated that she believes “it is imperative that all of us play a role in changing that reality for others.”
This sentiment is echoed by the Crown Princess of the United Kingdom, who recently met with 16-year-old cancer patient Liz Hutton at Windsor Castle. The teenager was diagnosed with a rare terminal cancer and given six months to three years to live.
After the visit, Hutton told BBC Radio's “Today” program that Kate and William were full of “humanity and kindness.”
Koirala has also met with others fighting cancer, and in early October visited London in support of the ovarian cancer charity Ovacome.
“Earlier this month, we were honored to meet famous Bollywood and Netflix star Manisha Koirala!” An Instagram post from the charity read on Friday, October 25, 19]
“It was inspiring to watch Maneesha speak with Ovacome members Samiksha and Preeti about her experience with ovarian cancer.”
“It was an honor to inform her about the work we are doing to support the ovarian cancer community and reduce health inequities.”
As for the Princess of Wales, the royal family announced in September that she had completed chemotherapy and has made two appearances since then. On her first post-chemotherapy visit, she met with Hutton and later with Prince William, who spoke to families and first responders affected by the tragic murder of three children in a British dance class.
