Keke Palmer Reveals 'Unhealthy' Relationship with Ex Darius Jackson, Says 'Walking Away is the Only Way to Go'

After a roller-coaster year, Keke Palmer reveals the full story of what really happened with ex-girlfriend Darius Jackson in her new book, Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative. In advance of the memoir's release, the Nope star sat down with People and spoke extensively about the much-publicized breakup.

Their relationship got off to a good start, Palmer told the magazine, but they “had separate loneliness and we made space together to exist in that loneliness.” They later had a son, Leo, who was born in February 2023, and Starr said their one-year-old son was “very planned.”

Palmer, however, admits that “there was a lot going on” in their relationship, and he offended Jackson in a very public way when he went out in a transparent dress to attend an Usher concert in July 2023. He wrote at the time, “It's your outfit ...... You're a mom,” he tweeted, sparking a storm of viral comments defending Palmer and her outfit.

The couple broke up shortly thereafter. Noting that their partnership had become “unhappy and unhealthy,” Palmer told People that her life with Jackson had “spiraled out of control.” She accused Jackson of domestic violence and obtained a temporary restraining order.

“The only way I knew to bring order was through the courts,” she said of her ex, who was caught on video breaking into Palmer's home and attempting to strangle her, according to People.

She admitted that “having a baby put a lot of stress on their relationship,” but her busy career also took a toll. She said of her fame, “It's a constant burden, not only on our romantic relationship, but also on our relationships with family and friends.” 'Too many voices come in. Sometimes everyone else doesn't trust me anymore. It's hard to explain.”

Jackson and Palmer, now in the military, went through a custody battle, but the “Akela and the Bee” star said things are much calmer these days. 'I wish I could say he's always been awful or I've been awful ...... But it wasn't that black and white, and that was the problem."

At the end of the day, she told People, ” I didn't want my son to think his father was a monster. But when asked what she would tell other women struggling with similar relationships, she bluntly replied, “The only way is to walk away.”
