Prince Charles once saw the ghost of Elizabeth I at Windsor Castle.

Halloween season is upon us. With palaces and castles dating back hundreds of years, it is no wonder that there are spooky encounters in historic halls. In fact, Prince Charles is said to have witnessed a Tudor monarch wandering the castle grounds dating back to the Middle Ages

.

“The late Queen saw her namesake, Queen Elizabeth (I), in the library of Windsor Castle. The King has seen the same ghost, and his grandfather, King George VI, saw Queen Elizabeth eight times in the library before World War II began,” claimed paranormal historian Richard Felix in his Amazon Prime documentary, The King of UFOs.

According to the book Haunted Castles of Britain and Ireland, Queen Elizabeth I, who died in 1603, frequently visited the library in Windsor. Sightings of Queen Elizabeth's ghost date back to the 19th century, with author Richard Jones writing in 1897 that Lieutenant Kerr Glynn, a Grenadier, “was sitting in a room outside the Queen's library when a woman dressed in black passed him and turned a corner.”

Glynn was apparently “intrigued by the woman's resemblance to the portrait of Elizabeth I” and went in search of her. But he “could find no trace of her,” Jones wrote, adding, “Moreover, there was no doorway through which she could have left the library.”

When Glynn mentioned the incident to a castle attendant, the attendant replied that “the only person who entered the library that afternoon was the lieutenant.” The incident did not seem so strange, and rather than being shocked, the attendant suggested to Glynn that he had “had the pleasure of seeing Queen Elizabeth I in a very special way.”

This story seems to be definitely in line with what I heard from a friend who used to work at Kensington Palace. She recalled that after the Palace closed for the day, a fellow employee saw a weeping woman in period clothing. When he turned around, the woman had disappeared.

Felix said the royal family was well aware of these ghostly inhabitants. In “The King of UFOs,” he said.

Prince William and Princess Kate even have their own resident ghost at their country home, Anmer Hall. In “Hello! magazine's A Right Royal Podcast, Felix said, “The ghost of a Catholic priest who lived there was hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason.”

According to Felix, “Before the Welsh couple moved in, they were warned about the ghost.
