Celebrity Halloween costume shoots have to be so over-the-top that you stop scrolling Instagram halfway through. But on October 31, Elsa Hosk won the top prize for “Most Accurate Halloween Tribute” for her tribute to Princess Diana's famous Revenge Dress.
Hosk recreated the famous Little Black Dress that Princess Diana wore to the Serpentine Gallery gala in London on June 29, 1994. Original by Christina Stambourian, it has a low-cut, draped, off-the-shoulder bodice, a tight-fitting asymmetrical skirt, and a flowing chiffon train at one hip. 2024 Halloween Edition has the designer's No credits are listed, but the hosk looks like it was plucked from the royal archives and is exactly the same as the original. The model and hersa designer worked with a trio of beauty professionals, hairstylist Panos Papandrianos, makeup artist Lea Darcy, and photographer Ashley Ora, to create Lady Di's iconic 90s look to create a tribute to Lady Di's iconic '90s look. Hosk's long platinum blonde hair was replaced with a dark blonde pixie shortcut with dark roots, eerily similar to the late Princess Diana's cut and color. She also faithfully recreated Princess Diana's makeup, with rosy blush and dark lined eyes. The only major difference is the fingertips: while Princess Diana paired her Revenge dress with a moody red manicure, Hosk opted for a 2024-esque butter yellow manicure.
Otherwise, Elsa Hosk looked like she came straight out of 1994. Her Halloween costume was so accurate that one Marie Claire editor said she did a double-take. Comments on the model's Instagram post sang a similar tune: “I thought this was original!” One wrote in capitals.
