6 Denim Trends for Fall 2024, How could your favorite celebrity not wear it?

No wardrobe is complete without a pair of chic, comfortable jeans. I'm convinced of it. While coats, shoes, and designer bags tend to get all the love, denim is the behind-the-scenes force behind many an enviable street style look. A quick glance at the latest celebrity outfits proves my point: from Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber to Zoë Kravitz and the Hadid sisters, stars can't help but pair their red carpet dresses with casual-cool jeans in every wash and cut. Even Taylor Swift couldn't resist. Even Taylor Swift returned to the Eras tour last weekend wearing the fall trend of baggy denim.

After surveying the street styles of A-listers over the past few months and figuring out the biggest blue jeans moments of the Fall 2024 runways, I've narrowed down the top denim trends that celebrities can't stop wearing this season. From Katie Holmes' favorite relaxed flares to Jennifer Lopez's super wide-leg jeans, find six Hollywood-approved fall styles.

The flared jeans of my millennial youth are back and better than ever thanks to a few crucial differences. Today's trend features a higher rise and less exaggeratedly folded knees than the Hollister flares I wore to middle school dances; in September, Bella Hadid wore a vintage Susamsa button-up in a framed buckled bunny dark wash flare and rode a New York s streets on horseback. A few days later, Jennifer Lopez, who is in divorce proceedings, wore a black turtleneck revenge crop top with super high-waisted indigo blue flares by Veronica Beard. Finally, Katie Holmes paired a relaxed Banana Republic flare with black ballet flats and a beige coat earlier this month.

Wide-leg jeans are essentially straight-leg minus the taper, in my opinion. Unlike baggy or barrel styles, they are more tightly fitted at the hips and then flow into a relaxed shape. Canadian tuxedo maniac Katie Holmes wore Alice and Olivia pants-style pleated jeans with pink socks and strappy heels, while Jennifer Lopez wore Victoria Beckham jeans with front patch pockets to Paris. Selena Gomez wore a pair of Banana Republic light-wash wide-leg pants with a slim belt and a black blouse to Emilia Perez's press conference in New York.

Low-rise jeans can be controversial, especially for those who lived through their heyday in the early 1980s. Thankfully, the low-rise denim trend for fall 2024 favors longer lengths and looser silhouettes that don't feel so revealing. Dakota Johnson paired her agolde low-rise jeans with a classic black cardigan. Gigi Hadid unbuttoned her long white shirt, revealing her midriff over her reformed jeans. And in horse girl fashion, Bella Hadid wore a cowboy hat, brown corset top, and a pair of black leathers at a rodeo showcase in the middle of New York City.

Baggy and barrel-leg jeans are now a celebrity must-have. Haley Bieber has been spotted in Agolde's curved wide-leg jeans several times before and after giving birth. In my humble opinion, EB denim dominates the barrel jean market with a wide range of styles, from super exaggerated to subtly curved. Rihanna's distressed baggy denim is reminiscent of their coveted Enzo Midrise Barrel Jeans, while Zoë Kravitz's slightly slimmer pair recalls their Alida Loose Bow Jeans.

Dark washes are making a big comeback, and for good reason: they're easy to style, but more modern and trouser-like in look. Meghan Markle wears only dark wash denim in skinny and straight-leg silhouettes.

Straight-leg jeans never go out of style, so it seems a bit sacrilegious to call them a fad. Still, they are a special favorite in the fall 2024 celebrity wardrobe. Kendall Jenner has worn Kaite's coveted Daniel Jeans several times in the past. Dua Lipa seems to prefer Celine's Margaret Jeans over any other style. Of course, Katie Holmes would agree that you can't go wrong with a pair of classic Levi's 501s.
