Kaia Gerber's tight LBD at the Academy Museum Gala After Party is the epitome of “Less Is More” dressing

One of the oldest tricks in fashion books (often attributed to Coco Chanel) recommends removing one accessory before leaving the house. Over the years, this has become a mantra of minimalist fashion, reminding fashion girls the world over that it is better to be modest than overdo it. Kaia Gerber has always dressed according to this rule, but she took it to the extreme when putting together her latest look.

On October 20, Gerber was photographed leaving the Chateau Marmont Hotel after attending the after-party for the star-studded Academy Museum Gala. She changed out of her vintage Audrey Hepburn-inspired Givenchy couture into a sleek little black dress, a minimalist's secret weapon. (Literally, Posh Spice loves this cut.) The no-fuss design is as simple as it gets.

True to fashion, Gerber accessorized modestly but elegantly. She chose dazzling gems and luxurious fabrics to make simple accessories feel interesting. Her jewelry consisted of only a few diamonds, including emerald-cut drop earrings and a choker-type tennis necklace.

Her footwear was similarly nondescript, strappy black naked sandals. Gerber carried a satin Judith Leiber clutch bag, but it had no notable details other than a shiny round gemstone on the strap. (Leiber is known for her extravagant crystal-encrusted pieces, so this simple design came as a shock.)

The bag was also available in a variety of colors.

Few people can pull off such a casually fashionable look, but this is one of Gerber's unique fashion skills. She often wears simple 90s-style LBDs reminiscent of her mother Cindy Crawford. This look was one of the OG supermodel's signatures at the time, and she still utilizes it for special occasions.

Like mother, like daughter.
